#USConsulate #climatechangeaction #stubbleburning #USConsulateGeneral #mumbai #support #kvksagroli #nanded #farmers #trainingday #climatechange #friendly #agricultureandfarming U.S. Consulate General Mumbai @usconsulategeneralmumbai Sanskriti Samvardhan Mandal
A one-day demonstration session on “Use of stubble for composting " was organized on 25 April 2023 at SSM KVK Sagroli under the Capacity Building program of farmers on Climate Smart Agricultural Practices supported by United States Council General Mumbai.
It was learned that crop residue burning affects human health, land, and nature. In our area, mainly sugarcane, rice, wheat, and cotton crop residues are burnt in large quantities. One can produce organic manure by properly decomposing the stubble in the field without burning it.
The demonstration program commenced with the introductory session, and the demonstration was guided by Prof. Kapil Ingle. During the demonstration program, the farmer were made aware of the effects of stubble burning on soil and nature. Further, they were guided on the use of stubble for composting guided by Prof. Kapil ingle. Agricultural residues like cotton, rice, and sugarcane trash are useful for composting. They guided on the type of composting like NADEP and Vermicomposting. Also guided the structure making, material required, and process of filling the compost unit. They told about the benefit of vermicompost containing the major nutrient like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash having percentages contain Nitrogen: 0.5 to 1.50%, Phosphorous: 0.1 to 0.30%, and potash: 0.15 to 0.56%. It gives high-quality vermicompost from crop stubble.
We demonstrated NADEP composting and Vermicomposting, during the demonstration we focused on the filling step and the material required for composting. We provide a visit to the organic farm on the SSM KVK campus.
